[Outline of Program]

The “Initiative for the Promotion of Young Scientists’ Independent Research” program funded by Special Coordination Funds for Promoting Science and Technology commissioned by the MEXT aims to introduce an employment system based on the tenure track system in the research institutions which are willing to become a global research base to provide young researchers with opportunities to become active and independent in a competitive environment. In the University of Tsukuba, the “Initiative to Develop the New Generation of Leaders at the University of Tsukuba” had already been proposed and adopted, led by the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences and the Institute of Biological Sciences, which are pioneering departments in the fixed term of employment system and the tenure track system, as well as the Institute of Applied Biochemistry and the Institute of Physics. An outline of the initiative is shown below:
